Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 brings rapid technological advancements. At PT. Unilever Oleochemical Indonesia, there is a plant boiler called medium pressure boiler (MP Boiler) that produces medium-pressure steam. In its operation, the air system in the boiler becomes a critical unit that requires attention. Force Draft Fan (combustion air supply) and Induced Draft Fan (exhaust gas suction) are used in the air control mechanism. The method for completing the final project is through several stages of data collection, namely carrying out field work practices, studying the literature to explore existing theories, as well as field research to observe, measure, and conclude operations. Operational studies and deepening of medium pressure boiler objects were obtained through interviews with boiler operators. Using the pyramid method and comparing literature theories with field experiences, this final project is compiled. An induction motor with VFD control is used to drive the draft fan. To operate the motor safely, efficiently, and reliably, an interlock system is needed to synchronize the boiler conditions with the motor and prevent troubleshooting in the MP Boiler. Through the DCS interlock system, the boiler conditions are synchronized with field sensors and parameters set in the DCS, achieving an interlock system that can control motor speed, start/trip the motor, activate alarms, and more. With DCS control, the influence of the interlock system on the force draft fan and induced draft fan motors can provide double protection and dual control, benefiting the company with efficiency and prevention of troubleshooting and harmful accidents.
